A. Bobela Mota

Poet, short-story writer, and journalist. His full name was Alfredo Jorge de Macedo Bobela da Mota, and A. Bobela-Motta also used the pseudonyms Luís Videla and «Paroquiano». He spent his childhood in Goa, where his father was Governor-General. He later completed secondary studies in Lisbon, going to Angola in 1924 as a civil servant. He remained there as a local administrative chief until 1940, the year he returned to Portugal. In 1952 he returned to Angola as a journalist, having founded the weekly Sul, of Moçâmedes. A leader of the Sociedade Cultural de Angola and a contributor to the Jornal de Angola (1953-1965), of the Associação dos Naturais de Angola, in Luanda, he was arrested twice in that city by the PIDE. After the independence of that colony, he was one of the founders of the União dos Escritores Angolanos.
