Alfredo Antunes

University professor and essayist. He completed the Higher Course in Classical Humanities at the Instituto Superior de Humanidades, affiliated with the Catholic University, in Soutelo (1955-1958), his bachelor's (1958-1960) and master's (1960-1962) degrees in Philosophy at the Pontifical Faculty of Philosophy, in Braga, a bachelor's degree in Religious Anthropology at Bellarmine College, in the Philippines, and at the Facultad de Teologia de Barcelona (1963-1966), where he also earned his master's, and a bachelor's degree in Law at the Catholic University of Pernambuco (1969-1974), in Recife, Brazil, where he settled. He undertook specialization courses in Brazil and Portugal. He earned his doctorate in Philosophy at the Portuguese Catholic University (1979-1982), with the thesis «Saudade e Profetismo em Fernando Pessoa: Elementos para Uma Antropologia Filosófica», and completed a post-doctorate with a study on «O Problema da Temporalidade na Obra do Padre António Vieira», at the University of Coimbra (1988-1990). He was a professor at the Institute of Philosophy of Macau (1963-1964), at the Catholic University of Pernambuco (1969-1983), at the Faculty of Philosophy of Recife (1972-1979), at St. Louis University (Philippines, 1974), at the Federal University of Alagoas (Maceió, Brazil, 1974), at the Catholic University, in Braga (1980-1982), and at the Federal University of Pernambuco (1982-1998). He has participated with papers in conferences in Portugal and Brazil and delivered lectures. He has dozens of articles in periodicals, such as Revista Portuguesa de Filosofia (Braga), Gil Vicente (Guimarães), Perspectiva Filosófica (Pernambuco), Estudos Portugueses, Cadernos Unicamp, Encontro (Recife), and Brotéria (Lisbon), and collaborated in vol. 19, Diós y el Hombre, of the Enciclopédia Temática CIESA (Barcelona, 1982), with the study «Confuncio: Un Humanista; Lao-Tsé: Un Místico» and in Fernando Pessoa: Estudos Críticos (João Pessoa, 1985), with the study «As Cartas Sinceras de Um Poeta Fingidor». He is a member of the Latin American Association of Philosophers, president of the Association of Catholic Philosophers (Pernambuco), and was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Postgraduate Studies in Philosophy (1994-1996). In 1994, he was awarded the Commander of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique by the Portuguese government.
