Born in Mâcon, France, on October 21, 1790, Lamartine is remembered for his lyrical and sentimental poetry. His poem 'Le Lac' (The Lake), published in 'Méditations Poétiques' (1820), became a milestone of French Romanticism. In addition to his literary career, Lamartine was an influential politician. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1848 and was a key figure in the Revolution of 1848, which established the French Second Republic. His prose work includes novels such as 'Graziella' and travelogues. Lamartine passed away on March 1, 1869.
