Bio
Azorean poet. Qualified for primary school teaching, she taught basic literacy in Farrobim (Feteira) until age 50. She fell in love at 17, married at 24, and was widowed at 80. From that love without truce or alarms, she celebrated every landmark, as well as the comfort of the «rosy atmosphere of [her] joyful and sweet home» (Osório Goulart), in verses «made and shaped in the course of domestic chores, during long walks to school, during hours of prayer in church, or while gathering with family» (Fr. Júlio da Rosa). Without notoriety, she ranks among the phalanx of Azorean poets who coincided in age with the modernist generation but remained resistant to any post-Parnassian innovation (see Maria Isabel da Câmara Quental, João de Matos Bettencourt, Félix Horta Espínola de Mendonça, José Barbosa, João Ilhéu, Oliveira San-Bento, etc.).
