Antero do Amaral

Poet and author of children's literature. During the era of so-called amateur radio stations, he produced for the Clube Radiofónico de Portugal a series of contextual texts under the title «No reino das Musas» – a series in which he often promoted Portuguese and Brazilian poets. He began his literary career in 1945 with a children's book. In 1947, he was employed as a clerk in the Accounting Division at Arsenal do Alfeite, from where he retired in 1980. Parallel to these duties, he continued his literary work, debuting in poetry with Sete Noites de Mãos Dadas (1956). From late 1959, and for five years, he wrote dialogues for Rádio Voz de Lisboa, interpreted by Alda Maria and Armando Baetas. He participated in the 2nd Poetry Encounters of Vila Viçosa (June 6 to 10, 1985), with his poems appearing in the four newspapers published by the respective Municipality for the event. He contributed short stories to the cultural supplement of O Diário. He is a member of the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores (APE) and the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores (SPA). He is the son of the writer João Amaral Júnior.
