Jean-François-Casimir Delavigne was born in Le Havre, France, in 1793. He stood out on the Parisian literary scene with his plays, particularly tragedies, such as "Les Vêpres siciliennes" (1819) and "Le Paraf" (1822). His poems, often with patriotic and historical themes, such as the "Chant des Girondins", gained popularity. Delavigne was also elected to the French Academy in 1825. His work reflects the spirit of his time, mixing romanticism with a strong sense of nationalism. He passed away in Paris in 1843.
