Casimiro Augusto Vanez Dantas

Military officer and writer, he was the father of the writer Júlio Dantas. In 1869 he joined the Army, where he remained until his retirement, which he reached at the rank of brigadier general. He acted as defense counsel in the first court martial of the 1st Division due to his vast knowledge of military law. A respected writer, prose author, and poet, he left several works scattered across daily newspapers, also establishing himself as a highly valued political journalist in the columns of Diário da Manhã, Diário Ilustrado, Correio da Europa, and Ilustração Portuguesa.
