Bio
Ethnologist, «a lady of the finest Porto bourgeoisie and, for her time, of unusual culture» (Orlando Ribeiro), she collaborated with Revista Lusitana and Revista de Educação e Ensino. Leite de Vasconcelos stated that «a prominent place in our literature is reserved for her, thanks to her spiritual gifts and vast, solid knowledge». She is the co-author of volume VIII of the «Biblioteca de las tradiciones populares españolas» [edited by Antonio Machado Álvarez (Santiago de Compostela, 1848 – Seville, 1893), a celebrated writer and folklorist of the Generation of '98 and father of the poets Antonio and Manuel Machado], where she analyzes, in Portuguese, the role of the rose in the collective imagination of different cultures, and where Eugenio de Olavarría y Huarte, under the pseudonym L. Giner Arivau, examines, in Spanish, the traditions, superstitions, romances, and songs of Asturias.
