Charles-Louis Philippe was a French novelist and poet, born in Cérilly on August 4, 1874. His work frequently addresses social themes, the lives of the poor and marginalized, and the human condition with raw realism. His writings are marked by deep empathy and direct, powerful language. Among his most notable works are "Bubu de Montparnasse" (1901) and "La mère et l'enfant" (1900).
