Fausto José

Poet. Having spent time in Coimbra, where he graduated in Law, he is associated with the magazines Bysancio and Presença, to which he contributed as a poet. In his early books, an amorous and spiritualized lyricism predominates; later on, his preferred themes are closely linked to popular expression, the environment or particular aspects—hunting, begging, etc.—of rural life, and regional traditions that are shaped by that lyricism.
