Born in Comiso, Sicily, in 1920, Gesualdo Bufalino dedicated much of his life to teaching literature before achieving literary recognition. His debut novel, 'Diceria dell'untore' (1981), was an immediate success and critically acclaimed, marking the beginning of a prolific career. Bufalino is known for his ability to weave narratives that explore the human condition, the passage of time, and the power of memory, often with a melancholic and philosophical touch. Other important works include 'Le menzogne della notte' (1988) and 'I blenchi' (1990). His writing is characterized by subtle erudition and deep aesthetic sensibility. Gesualdo Bufalino passed away in Riddes, Switzerland, in 1996.
