Giovanni Berchet (December 23, 1783 – December 23, 1851) was an Italian poet and patriot. Born in Milan, he actively participated in the movements for Italian independence. His most famous work, 'I profughi di Parga', is a narrative poem that expresses feelings of exile and longing for the homeland, becoming a symbol of Italian romanticism and the desire for freedom. Berchet also wrote prose and political manifestos, advocating for Italian unification and freedom. His life was marked by exiles and persecutions due to his political convictions. He died in Turin.
