Hamilton de Araújo

As one of the contributors to Folha Nova, alongside João Penha, Gomes Leal, Eugénio de Castro, António Feijó, etc., where he published short articles distinguished by their grace and irony, he founded, with Aristides de Albuquerque, the magazine O Cartão de Visita. Suffering from tuberculosis, the excesses of his bohemian and unruly life hastened his death. In the last years of his life, the premonition of death brought his poems closer to those of António Nobre, without, however, reaching the latter's aesthetic dimension. After his death, his scattered poems were collected and published by Dr. Rodrigo Veloso, under the title Canções dum Boémio (1889).
