Bio
Fiction writer and poet. Catholic priest and teacher. After completing his studies at the Seminário de Coimbra and being ordained a priest, he went to Africa as a missionary, settling in 1958 in Malanje, Angola, where he began teaching at its Seminário-Colégio. It was in the early 1960s, first with the poetry book Cabo Verde (1960) and later linked to the Imbondeiro movement in Sá da Bandeira (now Lubango, Angola), that he established himself both as a poet and a short-story writer. In 1963, he wrote the preface to the first book of verse by Angolan poet Agnelo de Oliveira, Aleluia. He is represented in the anthology Novos Contos d'África, by Garibaldino de Andrade and Leonel Cosme (1962).
