João da Silva

Poet and journalist. He studied Theology at the diocesan seminary (1953), taught secondary education, and dedicated himself to the print media and Radio. His extensive contributions, under the initials J. S., S., J. Silva, or the cryptonyms Sílvio, David, Procópio, Silvério, Almagro, and the anagram Avlis, are scattered across the almanacs Bertrand, Santo António, Camponez, Açores – he himself directed the advertising almanac O Publicitário –, the magazines Gaudete and Pérola, as well as periodicals such as O Debate, Gazeta do Sul, Diário de Notícias do Funchal, Voz da Madeira, Jornal da Madeira, Eco do Funchal, Madeira Popular, Diário da Madeira (whose literary supplement he coordinated), Re-nhau-nhau, O Clarim...
