João Fogaça

Palace poet. He belonged to the household of Infante D. João (future King John II) and was later, during his reign, controller, warehouse keeper of the Lisbon Customs, provost of the Lodging Office of the same city, and commander of Canha, Cabrela, and Sesimbra of the Order of Santiago. He contributed about twenty verses and over a dozen interventions in poetic «tournaments» to Garcia de Resende's Cancioneiro Geral, all marked by the usual frivolity of most palace poets. He was the son of Diogo Fogaça and father of Tristão Fogaça, who are also featured in Resende's Cancioneiro.
