A popular playwright in Funchal, where, between 1924 and 1930, he had a one-act drama and a farce, Mimi and O Renegado, performed by amateurs. He became a professional journalist residing in Lisbon from 1938, joining the editorial staff of the newspapers A Noite and Jornal da Tarde. In 1944, the year he joined O Século, his operetta O Zé do Telhado ran for over four months at Teatro Avenida in Lisbon and Porto. He adapted Herculano's novel O Bobo for the stage and left the monologue Sol nas Minhas Mãos unpublished. Primarily a fiction writer, he is included as a lyric poet in the anthology O Natal na Voz dos Poetas Madeirenses (1989). He contributed to several Madeiran publications such as A Ilha, O Comércio do Funchal, O Povo, Independência, A Batalha, Diário da Madeira, and Eco do Funchal. He also contributed to the magazine Panorama.
