João Maia

He joined the Society of Jesus in 1940, having graduated in Philosophy from the Pontifical Faculty of Braga. He holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Theology of Burgos (Spain). A poet and critic, but also a chronicler and fiction writer, he has regularly collaborated with Brotéria magazine, of which he is one of the main editors, and with other publications, namely Colóquio magazine and the Renovador newspaper, from Sertã. Furthermore, he hosts a weekly literary criticism program on Rádio Renascença. His poetry, little open to formal innovations and generally relying on rhyme, nevertheless earned from Jorge de Sena the epithets of «gentle and intelligent, meditative and simple».
