Jorge Pereira Alves

Broadcaster, poet, and painter. He was only eighteen years old when he debuted at Rádio Clube Português, which at the time did not yet carry this name. At twenty, he moved to what was then Emissora Nacional, where he worked as a broadcaster and sound designer until days before his death. An activity he interrupted only from 1944 to 1946 to be a broadcaster for NBC's Portuguese program «A Voz da América» in New York, a period during which he interviewed major political figures, such as Harry Truman, and artistic ones, such as Orson Welles. In 1949, he tried cinema, playing one of the characters in Artur Duarte's A Menina da Rádio. A multifaceted personality, he also devoted himself, not without success, to painting and poetry, leaving behind an important body of work in the latter area that remains unpublished.
