José Diogo Cabrita

Folk poet. Coming from a modest family of farmers, he only completed primary education. He established himself in his hometown as an exemplary citizen, invited to hold prominent and trusted positions in local institutions and recreational associations. He was born a poet, 'because a prose writer is made, but a poet is born that way,' states José Diogo Cabrita, which is proven by the ease with which he writes verse given the simplest motto. Although he views himself as a folk poet, focusing on quatrains reminiscent of Aleixo, it is also true that he composes sonnets of great beauty and erudition. Regional newspapers are the privileged stage for poets like José Diogo Cabrita, who enjoys permanent support in the columns of Ecos da Serra and Avezinha. In fact, the latter had the boldness to publish the only books he brought out. He has two poetry books awaiting publication, Aquilo Que a Gente Sente and Os Restos do Meu Saber, both with the support of that regional paper.
