Lídia Meunier

Short story writer and poet. She completed her secondary studies at the Rainha D. Leonor high school in Lisbon. She graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon. She began her literary activity at a very young age with the publication, in collaboration with Vera Ponce de Léon, of a book of short stories entitled Enquanto a Chuva Cai. In Diário de Notícias of February 15, 1952, it reads: 'Lídia Meunier – whose piece is "A Última Esperança", the best short story in this collection [Enquanto a Chuva Cai] – seemed to us to have a keen sense of humour and certain observations she makes have a fine, witty cut'. With the publication of the short story Por Detrás do Espelho (1952), she obtained an honorable mention in a literary contest by the magazine Átomo. She has several poems and short stories published in newspapers and magazines, namely O Comércio do Porto, Vértice, A Ilha and Telégrafo. Her short stories "A Comédia da Vida" and "Folhas Mortas" were adapted for radio. Currently, and since the mid-eighties, she has served as a senior technician at the Portuguese Institute of Book and Libraries, where her commitment to supporting Lusophiles worldwide has earned her heartfelt expressions of gratitude and esteem from them.
