Lolita Ramirez

Teacher and poet. Maria das Dores Dominguez Ramirez Galhardo Palmeira has used the pseudonym Lolita Ramirez since her first literary contribution, clearly indicating her Spanish origin. She studied in Lisbon at the Colégio de Santa Doroteia, later transferring to the Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Alto in Faro. She then went to the University of Coimbra, where in 1957 she began a degree in Romance Philology, which she interrupted for personal reasons, completing it in 1978 at the University of Lisbon. She began working in private education in 1958 in private day schools in Loulé, Mértola, and Vila Real de Santo António, moving to state education in 1974 at the preparatory school in her hometown. Her first writings, in prose and verse, were published for the first time in the columns of Notícias do Algarve, from V. R. Stº. António. She subsequently published in Folha do Domingo (Faro), Sotavento (Tavira), Correio da Manhã, and Jornal do Algarve (V. R. Stº. António), to which she still contributes with some regularity. She has also dedicated herself to painting and wood, bone, and stone sculpture.
