Luís de Oliveira Guimarães

Graduated in Law from the University of Lisbon in 1923, he went on to serve as a magistrate, acting as a public prosecutor's delegate in various localities. A journalist, poet, and playwright, he left scattered contributions in the periodicals A Capital, A Manhã, Primeiro de Janeiro, Comércio do Porto, Diário Popular, República, and Sol. He began his literary career with the publication of a book of verses in 1921, Bonecas Que Amam. His newspaper chronicles, as well as his theatrical productions, are generally humorous in nature. Having collaborated on several magazines and operettas in partnership with Carlos Selvagem, João Correia de Oliveira, José Ribeiro dos Santos, Augusto Santa-Rita e Silva, and Bastos, his most notable work for the theater was the adaptation of Aquilino Ribeiro's novel, O Arcanjo Negro, staged in 1948 at the Teatro da Trindade by Alves da Cunha. He was a co-founder of the Sociedade de Escritores e Compositores Teatrais Portugueses and editor of the institution's bulletin, Autores. He was also a member of the Associação dos Arqueólogos.
