Luís Vieira de Castro

Writer, journalist, historian, and politician. He held a Law degree and was a member of the National Assembly for two terms. He wrote important columns on foreign policy in the magazine Brotéria and the newspaper Novidades. He took part in political and literary demonstrations as a student, being a sympathizer of Integralismo Lusitano. During his time in Coimbra, he belonged to the literary magazine Ícaro (1919-1920), alongside João Cabral do Nascimento and other poets. In his capacity as a historian, he received two awards: the first prize for history in the Concurso de Literatura Colonial, with D. Carlos I - Elementos de História Diplomática, 1936, and the Prémio Ramalho Ortigão, from the Secretariado da Propaganda Nacional, with Limbo (crónicas e ensaios), 1936.
