Bio
Poet, music teacher, and painter. He completed the general high school course in Matosinhos and studied solfège and singing at the Porto Conservatory. He learned the piano from his mother and was self-taught on the organ. He worked as a radio broadcaster in Porto for Rádio Clube and Rádio Renascença. In the mid-20th century, he returned with his family to Oliveira do Hospital, where he took up permanent residence. He was a music teacher at the Brás Garcia de Mascarenhas College. He was also an actor in the Theater Group of the Casa do Povo of Oliveira do Hospital. His scattered contributions appear in the newspapers Jornal de Notícias (Porto), Comércio de Leixões, Distrito de Viseu, Voz de Lamego, the magazines Aquila and Fraternidade, and the children's newspaper O Papagaio. He organized the posthumous editions of Sonetos and Nada Torna a Voltar, by his father and sister, respectively. Several of his poems were recited on the former Emissora Nacional by Miguel Trigueiros, Manuel Lemos, Carmen Dolores, and Catarina Avelar, and sung by Emília Resende and José Cid. In 2011, the Municipality of Oliveira do Hospital commemorated the centenary of his birth with a series of cultural initiatives, including the Manuel Cid Teles Literary Contest for a dramatic text based on his work.
