Manuel de Góios

Captain of Mina and chief doorkeeper (porteiro-mor) of D. Manuel I, he is one of the most active poets of his time and one of the most represented in Resende's Cancioneiro Geral. He sparred in verse with the Count of Vimioso in an elegiac composition and, in addition to participating in numerous poetic «tournaments», wrote fifteen compositions (trovas, vilancetes, cantigas de amor and desencanto), one of which in Castilian.
