Manuel de Oliveira Pulquério

Essayist, university professor, and poet. He graduated in Classical Philology from the Faculty of Letters of the Classical University of Lisbon in 1950. He began his teaching career in Technical Vocational Education. After a stay at the University of Hamburg (1962/63), he earned his doctorate with the dissertation Estrutura e Função do Diálogo Lírico-Epirremático em Ésquilo (Coimbra, 1964), becoming a full professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra, where, from 1958 onwards, he began publishing a series of offprints of essays in the journal Humanitas. He also published offprinted essays in the journals Biblos and , of which he was director. He introduced, translated into Portuguese, and annotated works by Aeschylus and Plato. He was vice-rector of the University of Coimbra.
