Manuel Xarepe

Poet. He holds a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a postgraduate degree in Sociology of the Sacred and Religious Thought. He is an assistant at the International University for the Third Age, where he teaches Cultural Anthropology and Anthropology of Religions. He attended free courses on Linguistics, Literature and Arab Influence in Portuguese, Theater, Arab Culture, Esotericism, Christian Mysticism, and roller hockey coaching. He participated with papers in poetry congresses and meetings and has poems in the anthologies Antologia de Poesia, from the UITI Gerontology magazine (1986), and Poetas de Estremoz (Casa do Alentejo, 1983). A cineclub leader (Cineclube de Estremoz and Imagem), he was a founding member of the Non-Professional Cinema Nucleus of the Roque Gameiro Cultural Center, in Amadora, where he has resided since 1968. He worked on the editorial staff of the newspaper República and was editor-in-chief of Revista Alentejana, from Casa do Alentejo. He has contributed to other newspapers and magazines. An anthropological study, Do Alentejo a Lisboa, Um Olhar sobre os Ciganos, and two books of poetry are awaiting publication.
