Maria Alexandra Cavaco Carrilho

Local government official and poet. She is known in her hometown as the public face of female scouting youth, a movement she has belonged to since the age of eleven. Her poetry highlights a strong positive outlook on life and conveys constructive messages of great hope for younger generations. At times, it takes on a reminiscent and biographical tone, evoking cherished moments among the people of Loulé. In any case, her work stands out for a mixture of joy and pain, a rebellion against social inequality, and a faith in a better world, enveloped in a strong religiosity. The Municipality of Loulé published two books by her, following an enlightened policy of supporting local authors.
