Maria de Lourdes Agapito

Poet, prose writer, lecturer, and journalist. She completed secondary education at the Escola Comercial Ferreira Borges, having worked as a clerk. Still a student, she began writing poetry, short stories, and articles for newspapers and magazines. She studied Elocution with Germana Tânger and Natália de Matos and attended courses in Portuguese Literature and Portuguese-Language African Literatures at the Sociedade de Língua Portuguesa. She was co-founder of several cultural associations, such as the Associação dos Amigos de Ferreira de Castro—to whose bulletin she contributes—the Cenáculo de Arte e Cultura Grão Vasco (Sintra), the Círculo Nacional de Arte e Poesia, the magazine Sol XXI, and the Academia de História do Amazonas (Brazil). She organized and took part in numerous meetings, conferences, tributes, and poetry recitals. An academic of merit of the Academia Internacional de Pontzen in Naples, and of several Brazilian academies, she is a member of the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores and the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores. She is represented in poetry anthologies.
