Mariana Pimentel Maldonado

Poet. Sister of the liberal poet João Vicente Pimentel Maldonado. A woman of vast culture, she was in her time a highly regarded poet in Lisbon's literary circles, particularly those connected to liberalism. Her poetry was and remains scattered across the newspapers of the period, notably Jornal Poético (1812) and Português Constitucional (1820-1821), where she sometimes signed her work Mariana Antónia Epifânia. She wrote an introduction in verse, still highly appreciated today, for the Poesias of José Maria da Costa e Silva (3 vols., 1843-1844).
