Mathurin Régnier was a French satirical poet, born in Chartres in 1573. Nephew of the poet Jacques Grévin, he was educated in a conducive literary environment. His work, comprising satires, epigrams, and lyrical poems, stands out for its sharpness, wit, and social criticism, often tinged with irreverence and humor. His "Satires" are considered the pinnacle of his production, where he addresses themes such as religion, politics, and the customs of his time with a sharp pen. Régnier also explored lyrical poetry, showing a more melancholic and reflective side. Despite his short life, he died in 1613, he left a significant mark on French poetry, influencing later generations of writers with his mastery of verse and his critical spirit.
