Miguel Botelho de Carvalho

Poet of Gongorist influence. Private secretary to the Viceroy of India D. Francisco da Gama, he was also a Navy captain and secretary of the Embassy in Paris. A contemporary of D. Francisco Manuel de Melo, his entire poetic work was written in Spanish, as was frequently the case among poets of the period.
