Narciso de Lacerda

Poet and playwright. Both through the literary generation in which he established himself, and through his thematic sentimentality and verse elaboration, he belongs to the Parnassian current of our 19th-century lyricism. He debuted with Cânticos da Aurora, which included critical judgments by Camilo, João de Deus, and Silva Pinto. The controversy sparked by this book later led him to publish Os «Cânticos da Aurora» e a Crítica. Vários Mundos (1883) deals with astronomical concerns, and Auto do Amor is a 1-act play performed at the National Theatre in 1901.
