Nuno da Veiga Santos Fradique

Playwright, radio and television figure. Poet. He graduated in Economic and Financial Sciences, although he never pursued any professional activity within the scope of his academic studies. He was an announcer for Rádio Juventude and later joined the staff of Emissora Nacional, where he worked until 1956. He took a directing course at the BBC and joined RTP as a director, interviewer, and program presenter. He devoted himself, with great enthusiasm and success, to directing television theater, with special emphasis on A Dama das Camélias, Breve Sumário da História de Deus, and O Alfageme de Santarém. However, he was not just a man of the theater: «[...] He wrote with rare elegance and his personal style unequivocally marked a fascinating, multifaceted personality, denoting an uncommon sensitivity [...]» (in 40 Anos de Televisão). He authored a book of poetry, Poemas e Canções, whose publication date (posthumous?) is not listed in any record, a situation identical to that of his two plays. Some years ago, RTP established the «Nuno Fradique» award for young directors.
