Destiny and Overcoming

Señor, señor, do you know where we’re headin’?

Not Heaven itself upon the past has power;

All human things are subject to decay,

Do your duty, and leave the outcome to the Gods.

For of fortunes sharpe adversitee

Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!

Adversity is sometimes hard upon a man; but for one man who can stand prosperity, there are a hundred that will stand adversity.

The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a human heart. One must imagine that Sisyphus is happy.

There is no fate that cannot be surmounted by scorn.

Politics and the fate of mankind are formed by men without ideals and without greatness.

Iacta alea est.

Time, the avenger! unto thee I lift

Nae man can tether time or tide.

I was ever a fighter, so—one fight more,

Some are born to sweet delight,

Muss es sein? Es muss sein.

Nothing happens to anybody which he is not fitted by nature to bear.

Everything is fitting for me, my universe, which fits thy purpose. Nothing in its good time is too early or too late for me; everything is fruit for me which thy seasons, Nature, bear; from thee, in thee, to thee, are all things.
