Anguish

Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.

Your mind is tossing on the ocean.

Is there no pity sitting in the clouds, That sees into the bottom of my grief?

One fire burns out another’s burning, One pain is lessen’d by another’s anguish.

O coward conscience, how dost thou afflict me!

My conscience hath a thousand several tongues, And every tongue brings in a several tale, And every tale condemns me for a villain.

To be, or not to be; that is the bare bodkin That makes calamity of so long life.

This is. And thou art. There is no safety. There is no end. The word must be heard in silence. There must be darkness to see the stars. The dance is always danced above the hollow place, above the terrible abyss.

What we have to discover is that there is no safety, that seeking is painful, and that when we imagine that we have found it, we don’t like it.

I am living in a nightmare, from which from time to time I wake in sleep.
