Amphimacer

From Greek amphimakros: long on both sides. A foot of classical Greek and Latin prosody; occasional in English experimental verse.

Definition

A metrical foot of three syllables: stressed-unstressed-stressed (— u —), also called the cretic foot.

Example

'Catch a breath', 'bright as day' — stressed on both outer syllables.
