Aubade

From Old French aube: dawn. A major genre of Provençal troubadour poetry (alba); adopted into English by Donne, Larkin, and many others.

Definition

Example

Donne's 'The Sun Rising': 'Busy old fool, unruly sun, / Why dost thou thus / Through windows and through curtains call on us?'
