Ramiro S. Osório

He lived in Paris for twenty-two years, returning in 1984. There, he attended a free course in Semiology taught by Roland Barthes at the Collège de France and obtained the D.P.L.G. (diplomé par le gouvernement) architect diploma from the École Nationale des Beaux Arts. Since returning to Portugal, he has worked on advertising campaigns, having been creative director in several advertising companies and, notably, being responsible for the advertising exploitation of the concepts of «cá dentro» (inside here) and «lá fora» (outside there) which gave rise to the slogan «Vá para fora cá dentro» (Go outside, stay inside). He has also regularly dedicated his activity to literature (poetry and fiction prose), painting, and, especially in the period between 1964 and 1979, to cinema and video, being notably the author of fourteen super-8 films within what can be described as an «underground» production, and also, in 1997, of a video – «Os Esquecidos» – broadcast on the four Portuguese television channels, and a documentary project on the colonial war – «Álbum de Família». As a painter, he is represented in several individual and collective collections. In addition to the titles mentioned below and others whose publication is pending editorial negotiations, the volume Para Adultos-Prodígio, with drawings by René Bertholo, is forthcoming. He was awarded in 1959 with the Prémio da Asociación Literária de Noveles Españoles, in 1979 and 1980 with the 2nd Children's Literature Prize from the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores and the Secretaria de Estado da Cultura, and in 1980 with the Revelation Mention (fiction category) from the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores and the Secretaria de Estado da Cultura. He has contributed to various magazines and newspapers, notably Nova 2, Sema, Loreto 13, Plural, Diário de Lisboa, O Ponto, Diário de Notícias, O Jornal, Jornal de Letras, Jornal do Fundão, Correio do Minho, Alne (Madrid), Ailleurs (Paris), Cadernos de Livre (?) Expressão (Paris), Le Fou Parle (Paris).
