Raul Malaquias Marques

Journalist. He studied Economics and has published books in the fields of narrative fiction, dramatic texts, and poetry, as well as books aimed at children and youth. Raul Malaquias Marques was born in Praia da Vieira de Leiria, in 1947, and studied Economics. In addition to his work as a journalist, he has published books in the fields of narrative fiction, dramatic texts, and poetry aimed at adult readers. With Um bobo para o reino, he received an honorable mention in the Garrett Prize for children's and youth theater, 1988. Published in 1992, accompanied by illustrations by José Miguel Ribeiro, this dramatic text brings to the stage characters from folktale traditions and comedy (with names recalling figures from António José da Silva's theater), suggesting a reflection on the relativity of life and social functions. Also noteworthy, for its quality and mastery of verbal play, is the author's foray into poetry for the young in De Sol a sonho.
