Teixeira de Pascoaes (November 2, 1877 - December 14, 1952) was an influential Portuguese poet and essayist, born in Amarante. He was a prominent figure in 20th-century Portuguese literature, founder of the magazine 'A Águia', and one of the main drivers of the Renascença Portuguesa movement. His concept of 'Saudosismo', a state of mind that expresses melancholy and longing for the lost or the unattainable, became a distinct literary current. His poetry, often linked to the Douro landscape and his Minho identity, explores themes such as death, saudade (longing), religion, and the search for transcendence. Pascoaes maintained extensive correspondence with intellectuals worldwide, and his work continues to be studied and admired for its lyrical and philosophical depth.
