Bio
Humanist, he was a professor at the Universities of Palermo, Rome, and Bologna. He left studies in Latin on rhetorical poetry and prosody, and published Latin speeches he had delivered on various occasions. He wrote up the course he had led on poetic art in Rome under the title: De Antiquitate, Dignitateque Poesis et Poetarum differentia (published by Frei Luís de São Francisco in Globus Canonum et Arcanorum Linguae Sanctae, in Rome, 1586). Tomé Correia's study, seeking to reconcile faith with classical concepts, integrated poetry into moral philosophy, giving it an ethical-pedagogical foundation. According to his thesis, those poets who, distancing themselves from the world, managed to express divine thought would be the greatest representatives of Art. Among several other works, he also published a work dealing with rhetorical issues – De Eloquentia libri quinque, 1591.
