Vasco Miranda

Poet and essayist. Vasco Miranda is the pseudonym of Father Arnaldo Cardoso Ferreira. Graduating in Philosophy and Theology from the Seminário Maior da Guarda (1943), he carried out his priestly duties in Mata de Lobos, a parish in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, before moving to Lisbon, where he died. He contributed, in prose and verse, to various newspapers and magazines, namely: Mundo Literário, Árvore, Quatro Ventos, Cadernos do Meio-Dia, Império, Horizonte, Gazeta Literária, O Comércio do Porto. Of his poetry, where a markedly visionary and prophetic tone often combines with a certain rhetorical emphasis, Fábio Lucas says that it «glorifies life, man, the transcendent force of the word».
