Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. He studied philology at the University of Lausanne and in Berlin. He spent a large part of his life in Paris and later in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. His work, marked by a direct and powerful style, explores the relationship between man and nature, traditions, and Swiss identity.
