Inácio Rebelo de Andrade

Poet and short story writer. After attending high school in Nova Lisboa and Bié, he completed a degree in Agricultural Management in Portugal, a profession he also practiced in Angola. He holds a degree in Agronomy from the University of Luanda, a doctorate in Agronomic Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon, and a habilitation in Diffusion of Agricultural Innovations and Rural Extension from the University of Évora, where he is a full professor in the Department of Sociology. He began his teaching career at the University of Luanda and, in 1975, joined the faculty of the University of Évora. He served as president of the General Scientific Council during the 1993-95 biennium and coordinated the Committee that created the Center for Research and Development in Human and Social Sciences, which he directed from 1995 to 1997, at the University of Évora. In 1984, he was hired as a UNESCO consultant for the «Project BRA/82/001» in Brazil and collaborates in pedagogical activities at the University of São Paulo. He directed the Division of Agricultural Economics and Sociology at the Agronomic Research Institute of Angola before 1975, was part of the Office of the Minister of State Professor Henrique de Barros in the 1st Constitutional Government in 1976, and was vice-president, from 1977 to 1980, of the Instituto António Sérgio. In the 1960s, he was actively involved in Angolan literary movements, having founded, with the poet Ernesto Lara Filho, the Colecção Bailundo. A writer whose roots lie at the juncture between so-called overseas literature and that of a specifically indigenous character, he is represented in the anthologies: Antologia de Poesias Angolanas, by Maria da Conceição Nobre (1957); Contos d' África, by Garibaldino de Andrade and Leonel Cosme (1961); and Angolese Verhalen [Angolan Tales], by Bertus Dijk (1972). He is a member of the União dos Escritores de Angola and the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores. He has scientific studies published as offprints in the journal Economia e Sociologia and in book form. Before 1975, he signed his books: Rebello [with double l] de Andrade.
