Juliusz Słowacki was born in Kremenets, in the then Volhynia Governorate of the Russian Empire. He studied law and philology in Vilnius. During the November Uprising, Słowacki worked for the Polish government-in-exile in Paris. His poetry and dramas often address historical and national themes, as well as philosophical and existential issues. Notable works include the drama 'Kordian' and the epic poem 'Beniowski'. Słowacki is admired for his rich and innovative poetic language. He passed away in Paris, France.
