Luís António Domingues Polanah

University professor, he completed higher studies in Painting at ESBAL and graduated in Social Sciences from ISCPU (1966). As a final-year student of the latter course, he was a collaborator at the Institute of Scientific Research of Mozambique, which published his valuable work Possessão e Exorcismo em Moçambique (1967). He left for Angola (1968) as a technician for the Provincial Settlement Board of Angola, moving to the University of Luanda, where he was in charge of the Cultural Anthropology chair (1975). Transferred to the University of Maputo, he remained there (1976) until embarking again for Portugal. He joined the University of Minho as an assistant, completing studies at the Complutense University of Madrid (1978). He presented his doctoral thesis in Social Sciences at the University of Minho, where he remained as a professor. He has participated in numerous congresses, seminars, and meetings and collaborated with journals such as Geographica, Reordenamento, Minia, Factos e Ideias, Revista Lusitana, Nós, Trabalhos de Antropologia e Etnologia, Anais Universitários, etc., having published important works as offprints in some of them. In the 1950s and 60s, he contributed poetry to O Brado Africano, from Lourenço Marques, and published the anthology Poetas Moçambicanos (1960) at the Casa dos Estudantes do Império. Member of the Lisbon Geographical Society, the Society of Anthropology and Ethnology, the Portuguese Association of Anthropology, and the European Anthropological Association.
