Mercè Rodoreda i Geli was born in Barcelona on October 10, 1908. Her novel "La plaça del Diamant" (The Diamond Square), published in 1962, is considered her masterpiece and one of the fundamental novels of Catalan literature. The book narrates the story of Natàlia Malla, a young woman who goes through the war and its consequences, revealing the resilience and inner strength of women in difficult times. Other important works include "El carrer de les Camèlies" (Camellia Street) and "Jardí vora el mar" (Garden by the Sea). Her writing is characterized by rich and sensory language, deep exploration of female psychology, melancholy, and a strong connection to the Catalan landscape.
