Death and Mourning

So leben wir und nehmen immer Abschied.

The thing I came for:

I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life.

We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’ to ‘touch the face of God.’

I am going to seek a great perhaps … Bring down the curtain, the farce is played out.

There died a myriad,

Here am I, dying of a hundred good symptoms.

Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;

How happy is the blameless Vestal’s lot!

Vital spark of heav’nly flame!

Lo! thy dread empire, Chaos! is restored;

The fever called ‘Living’

The woman is perfected

Excuse my dust.

Let us sleep now.

Rattle his bones over the stones;

The thought of suicide is a great source of comfort: with it a calm passage is to be made across many a bad night.

The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness.

Life is a great surprise. I do not see why death should not be an even greater one.

I pray you, master Lieutenant, see me safe up, and my coming down let me shift for my self.

This hath not offended the king.

Is not this house as nigh heaven as my own?

Fare well my dear child and pray for me, and I shall for you and all your friends that we may merrily meet in heaven.

I want death to find me planting my cabbages, but caring little for it, and even less about the imperfections of my garden.
